The Power of Words:

Changing how we think & speak can truly change our Lives

I have been wanting to write this post for a very long time, so I did what I always do; I start it with the title, and leave it empty and unpublished until I'm ready to work on it.

Well, the time has come, because the Universe has revealed to me in more ways than one, this week alone, how powerful simple word changes (and word usage!) can affect our lives!

Let's start with the book The Four Agreements, by Don Miguel Ruîz: 1. BE IMPECCABLE WITH YOUR WORD Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

'Nuff said!

I read those words for the first time almost six years ago, and let me tell you, they changed my Life!  I've spent some parts of those last six years trying (and trying, and trying!) to be impeccable with my word.  It's tough work!

But the power of words goes much deeper.  Just last week I came across this beautifully appropriate quote on Spark People: Choose your thoughts wisely, for they are the energy that create your Life

Can I get an Amen?!

Then, I saw something while driving that reinforced (in a totally different way) how powerful simple word changes can be.

I saw an advertisement for Raleigh's one-and-only Errand Girl, at errandgirl4u.com.  My first thought?  What a fantastic idea!  Why didn't I think of that first?!  Then came, wait, errand girl?  Another name for personal assistant?

Do you know anyone who would pay for a personal assistant, at a rate of $25/hour, to pick up groceries and dry cleaning, walk and feed their pets, pick up/drop off at the airport, and maybe accompany their aging parent to medical appointments?  Not me!

But, do you know someone who can benefit, for only $25/hour, from an additional set of hands?  Someone to help pick up tonights dinner since you're running late at the office, maybe swing by your house to feed poor, hungry Fido, and run your aging parent(s) to appointment after appointment?  All in the name of maintaining sanity?

I sure do!  What a neat concept!  And, here it is again; why didn't I think of that first?!

What a difference the simple word change (from Personal Assistant to Errand Girl) makes in your perception and experience.

And last, but definitely not least, came the conversation with my dear friend and brother just yesterday about how changing our thoughts, concepts, and the language we use in our Self-talk can make or break us.  You know, just typical day-to-day talk between two therapist :D
